“Rob Simonds is one of my favorite violinists. He approaches each new work with a magical combination of fearlessness, technical refinement, and serious virtuosity. It’s rare to encounter such a well-rounded musician who is also a joy to work with.”
-Missy Mazzoli, composer
"At his back-to-back concerts in March, 2016, as part of Bisbee, Arizona's For the Love of Music concert series, Robert Simonds performed mostly contemporary music, most of it written by Americans whom he knows...The music was varied, inventive, and interesting.
This music required a virtuoso musician, and Mr. Simonds met its demands and then some. Alone on the stage for the entire concert, he held the audience's attention throughout the program. Robert Simonds was also easy to work with, and we look forward to having him perform for us again as part of a future season."
-Katherine Hagstrum, Director, For the Love of Music; Bisbee, AZ
The violin plays an outsized role in Baroque and American folk music and the footprints of these traditions are found in the forthright, kinetic and colorful music of many living composers. These programs trace connections across styles, centuries and continents featuring 17th & 18th Century solo pieces, original versions of American roots music and current compositions. The character of this music is virtuosic, mournful, plainspoken and at times experimental. Casual commentary on the music, composers and styles is a fundamental part of each performance.
